Welcome!

Hello, and welcome to my cozy corner! I am Marion, #1 fan of cheesy and silly things on Neocities.org, and possibly the world.

About Me

I'm pretty much your average 22 year old sheepguy with grand aspirations of becoming a musician. Well, I guess I already am one... I do make music, I'm just not ready to show it to anybody yet! But for now, I'm a barista at a smoothie cafe. It doesn't pay as much as I'd like ($100/hr would be ideal) but it's not too bad. I get free smoothies. And I can make the best smoothies, anytime I want, because I know all the secret recipes! If you want them, I totally won't tell you. That would be like, corporate espionage? And I'd never do that ;)

When I'm not working, I'm usually at home with my houseplants. I desparately want a garden but these potted violets will have to do until I'm rich and famous :P

Likes

My biggest hobby at the moment is cross stitch. I've gotten to the point where I'm pretty good at it so I've been trying to draft my own designs. Sometimes they work out, sometimes they don't look so good, but it's always a lot of fun. I'm also into TTRPGs (and yes, I mean TTRPGs, NOT just Dungeons and Dragons), cars, video games, reading (Tolkein and Discworld especially), and cooking. I know cars suck to a major degree but unfortunately, they are cool. I like trains too, for the record!

Disikes

I'm not a hater by nature, I have a nature of sentimental wonder and whimsy and love, a nature that brings me to tears when I witness the beauty and kindness that exists in this world. I'm that kind of guy. By nature, I am a lover. I only dislike haters, or maybe the hate itself, since once you're a hater it doesn't mean you can't shed your hate and become a lover in the future. That said, I don't really care for things like paperwork, or coffee. I prefer tea.

Music

Music is my life! I like a lot of different kinds of music, but I'm a big fan of two microgenres in particular, dungeon synth and comfy synth. If you haven't heard of them: Dungeon synth has got to be the geekiest music genre ever created. Dungeon synth music is a genre of epic synthesized soundscapes that evoke great journeys across imaginary lands. As a fantasy fan, it is plainly awesome. It makes a perfect soundtrack for rereading LOTR for the 2700th time or for worldbuilding for your campaign in a game that is definitely NOT Dungeons and Dragons, but probably does contain, dungeons and dragons. This genre originated in the 90s, and it's currently undergoing a revival.

But for all its virtues, there's one thing dungeon synth lacks... cheesy oversentimental kitsch! Well, may I introduce you to COMFY SYNTH! It's like dungeon synth, but instead of evoking medieval mages and knights and elves and stuff, it evokes all things cozy, comforting and nostalgic. Childish wonder... Like a warm blanket in sonic form. THIS is the kind of music I want to make. It's a pure distillation of my entire aesthetic sensibility. It's my one true love. Comfy synth forever.

Recommendations

After I did all that hyping, you might be wondering: can I listen to this stuff? It sounds awesome, where do I begin? So, here you are. I have assembled a neat list of music recommendations from these genres.

Dungeon Synth

Depressive Silence - Depressive Silence II: Originally released as a demo cassette in 1996, this is an absolute classic of the genre, a perfect starting point to get into dungeon synth, and one of my favorite albums of all time.

Quest Master - The Twelve Temples: Almost makes me cry with how adventurous and hopeful it feels.

Darken Wood - V: The forest calls me.

Comfy Synth

Chronicles of Jest - Pastoral Daydreams: Pastoral indeed. The impeccable vibe of cloudwatching on a hillside.

Grandma's Cottage - Memory Box: One of the best known comfy synth albums for good reason.

The Friendly Moon - Sleep Well!: Cuddled up under the covers, ready for sweet dreams...

Covered Bridges - Covered Bridges: I could listen to "Contrary Wind" forever.

Well That's All for Now... Come Back Soon!
